The El Paso County Democratic Party takes no position on Proposition 130, and for good reason. While $350 million to recruit, train, and retain law enforcement officers may sound admirable, this measure is an unfunded mandate—meaning it doesn’t raise any new revenue to support this initiative. Instead, it risks pulling money from other critical public services like K-12 education and crime prevention programs.
Law enforcement deserves more than a political maneuver designed to generate campaign ads—they deserve sustainable, dedicated funding that doesn’t come at the expense of other essential services.
