Amendment J: Repealing the Definition of Marriage in the Constitution

October 10, 2024by Lady Whistleblower

The El Paso County Democratic Party enthusiastically recommends a Yes vote on Amendment J, and frankly, it’s about time. The outdated definition of marriage currently lingering in our state constitution is a relic of a less enlightened era, and its repeal is long overdue. LGBTQ+ Coloradans deserve the same access to marriage as anyone else, and this measure ensures our constitution reflects the values of equality and love that we hold dear.

Not only does this amendment affirm marriage as a basic right for all, but it also acts as a safeguard. Should the Supreme Court ever decide to backtrack on marriage equality, this repeal will protect Coloradans from losing that fundamental right. A Yes vote secures the freedoms we’ve fought so hard to achieve. Let’s keep Colorado on the right side of history, shall we?
