The El Paso County Democratic Party urges a strong No on Amendment 80, and let me assure you, this measure is not the benign “school choice” proposal it pretends to be. Colorado already has a well-established system that offers parents plenty of options within public education, along with private and home-schooling routes. So why this initiative, you ask? It’s a Trojan horse, designed to funnel public dollars away from our public schools and into private hands.
The Colorado Constitution guarantees a free public education, but this measure threatens to undermine that promise by potentially redirecting funds from our already underfunded public schools. And let’s not forget the legal mess it invites, with courts likely stepping in to determine how this plays out.
A No vote ensures we keep our public schools funded and vibrant, protecting the cornerstone of equal opportunity in education. Let’s not allow this thinly veiled attack on public schooling to erode what we’ve worked so hard to build.
