State House District 22
I’m running to represent House District 22 because I believe my district needs a representative to represent all of us in Denver, with sound ideas and the temperament to build the coalitions necessary to serve everyone. I think elected officials are responsible for making government work for everyone, leaving their egos at the door. Unfortunately, that’s not what we have in our current HD-22 representative, Ken DeGraaf.
Is there any aspect of the Colorado or El Paso County Democratic Party platforms that you do not agree or align with?
I would like to see an allowance for recreational and competitive target shooting in weapons detailed in “Firearms and Gun Safety.” I also think we need to have a state-wide conversation over weapons: who, when, where, how are they appropriate? I’m also not a fan of the detailed list under “State & Defense.” It’s not the place of a state party to weigh in on the Law of Armed Conflict or international treaties.
What single issue/problem/situation will you address first if elected and how will you do it in the context of the position you will serve in?
I’d like to see a review on every state law and policy where values, limits, fees, etc. have not been adjusted for inflation in more than five years. I’ve come across many state policies where these figures were set years ago and not adjusted. I think it would save many businesses, taxpayers and the state money, time and aggravation.
